Next-Gen Dealer Portal
Helping medium dealership owners to make quick decisions and related activities
Timeline: June 2022 - August 2022
Intern Project collaborated with PM, Mentor, and colleague designers
Tool: Figma, Miro
Overview
The previous versions of the automotive dealership portals are mainly numerical charts with following problems.
Longer time spend on reviewing and comparing data
Manually find problems and opportunities
Next-Gen Dealer Portal is a futuristic web-based dashboard that helps medium dealership owners to make quick decisions. My design goal is to help owners quickly address problems and opportunities, provide impactful answers, and assist dealerships to achieve their best. The constraint of this project is the lack of up-to-date user data and limited time for the final production under the agile design process.
What are the pain points?
Dealership owners want to quickly identify the light problems
Need assistance with how to prioritize problems
Insights to help identifying root causes of problems.
What are the solutions?
The Design Goal is to help owners quickly address the problems and opportunities, provide the impactful answers, and assist dealerships to achieve their best.

Insight Mode
By highlighting problems and opportunities with approachable solutions, dealership owners can quickly dive deeper and get a hand on the cases to maximize the business's KPI
Forecasting
xxxx
By visualizing seasonal sales plans onto the total sale revenue graph, it is more straightforward for business owners to monitor and review the sale goals.
Data Comparison
Offers two types of comparison, comparing within own dealership groups and comparing with similar dealership models in the market. Owners can review business comparisons by time range, geography, average data, and ranks.
AI Chatbot
AI chatbot helps owners quickly review the daily report and navigate to specific areas based on their needs.
What is the design process?
User Research
The research goal is to revise and refine current users’ goals and challenges while using dealership tools. Since the automotive industry is fast-grown, users’ needs and wants may change quickly based on the market response. My team and I used three methods to approach the research goal.
- NDP Stakeholders video Interviews
- Secondary Researches
- Internal Researches
Due to NDA, the details of the research can not be shown here.
After 10+ user interviews, here are the top 8 components users are most interested in and requested.
User Persona
Based on the research, I designed a new version of the user persona to better approach and sympathize with the current users. Building a persona helps me as a designer better stepping into users’ shoes and solve the actual problems.
User Flows
User flow builds different scenarios of user behavior, which helps this project narrows down the scale and have a starting point.
Reframing Problems

What do I learn?
By immersing in an agile design environment, I practice design skills through different sprints in a short amount of time. There were also several constraints in the beginning. However, as a UX/UI designer, I learned how to plan my schedule and design goals more efficiently and step into users’ shoes through quick and efficient communications thru interviews and tests.
